Reiki + Patience

Uncategorized Feb 25, 2020

Yesterday my sister in-law said to me, you are the most patient woman I know.
.
And, I am a very patient human being. I remember when I moved to Arcata in ‘99. I was 25 years old, moved all the way from Iowa to Humboldt all by myself, and I told myself that I was going to work on patience. I had just read the 4 agreements and I chose this one concept to focus on. Lucky for me, Arcata was very slow, and so I got to practice a lot of patience. My parents were very impatient in my mind. 🤷🏻‍♀️And, I wanted to feel less frazzled, less irritated and less frustrated.
.
So I settled in and (tried) to get comfortable in the present moment. My places to practice were the grocery line, traffic and my job. I would breathe deep and hope for the best. It took me a LOOONG time to cultivate patience, but I was very dedicated.
.
Fast forward to 2005, I become a reiki practitioner and my real work began in becoming present.
.
The main practice of Reiki is presence. Remaining in the ever present moment. The only moment. Reiki has helped to cultivate immense patience in me because while everyone is always rushing around, busy, moving fast like it’s their life line, I am practicing presence.
.
In order to heal using Reiki, we remain in a meditative state. So think about living life as meditation. We live Reiki. When a thought comes in during a session, I gently release it and clear my mind, coming back to the present moment. I know that the effects of channeling a higher frequency will work on the mental, physical and emotional planes, but I don’t have any control over how it will work, so I get to practice detachment from outcome. Trusting that the healing is taking place and not trying to control, push or pull.
.
All of this has made me a much more patient person. In the grocery store instead of becoming impatient, I give gratitude (another reiki precept) for the ability to get my food in one location. That I have the resources and the time to meal plan, shop and stand in line for delicious, healthy food. In traffic, I give gratitude that we are safe and able to travel by car to the places we need to go. With my son and husband I am patient, remembering that we are all on our own path, learning things and growing at our own perfect pace. With my clients or bringing people into my healing/coaching practice, I have patience knowing the right people who are coded to me will find me and work with me when the time is right for them.
.
All in all, I would love to see people find more patience and compassion in their lives. It’s safe to slow down, take all the time you need and give yourself and those around you the gift of patience.
.
